Call of Duty: Black Ops Review

Call of Duty: Black Ops is a first person shooter game developed by Treyarch and published by Activision. It's the seventh game in the call of Duty series and is the first to be set in the cold war. Essentially there are three main game types; Campaign, Multi-player and Zombies.

In campaign, you play as Alex Mason. He is trapped in an interrogation room being held for information. Stopping the production and usage of a chemical weapon known as 'nova-6' is the players’ ultimate goal. Missions in the game are essentially flashbacks between 1961 and 1968. The players’ mission locations are worldwide and give a chance to explore different terrains and as well as guns and equipment that is suited for that type of mission. It's easy to follow and difficulty levels can be set to suit your level of skill. Overall it’s pretty exciting with vast variety of guns and gadgetry. 8.5/10

Selecting Zombies allows players to have a game of survival against waves of zombies and tests players’ skills and strategy decisions. It can also be played with up to 4 other people. Essentially there are a few maps which the player can choose before entering a game. Once a game is started the player gain points/money which is earned by killing zombies, either by knifing or shooting. Players can then buy perks, equipment, upgrade weapons and unlock extra rooms. The main aim is to survive as many waves/hoards of zombies as possible and earn a high kill/point score. It’s a thrilling and horrific game play that gives you a good adrenaline rush!  7/10

Multi-player is known to be the game's best aspect. It is very interactive and competitive with hundreds of thousands of players playing every day. The great thing about multi-player is the amount of guns and customization that can be done. Players start off with basic guns and equipment but earn money after each game. Games can range from search and destroy (plant a bomb in designated areas and defend it. kill all enemy players. The role is swapped between teams) to domination (Capture the 3 flags and hold them as enemy try to capture them). With the money the players earn, they can buy things such as guns, perks, equipment, weapon and player camouflage, emblem shapes etc. These all make the multi-player mode exciting and interactive. However the game quickly gets boring if friends are not playing with you. Also because there are no dedicated servers the 'hosts' are players which most of the time works for their advantage and therefore can get really frustrating at times. However despite this the game makes up for it with creative maps, awesome guns and excellent graphics.  9.5/10
